FROM THE COMMANDER:
Fellow Legionnaires,
Greetings and hope this finds you and your families continuing to be healthy and doing well in the midst of the current COVID-19 Pandemic. The numbers in Tennessee keep creeping higher and it is a scary time and we all must take appropriate precautions. Therefore I have consulted with the Executive Committee on 4 August. I asked and it was unanimously agreed upon to cancel our 11 August meeting. There remains nothing urgent on the agenda that could not wait until our September meeting.
Your Executive Committee met on 4 July, via a Zoom internet conference and revised an agenda for our next regularly scheduled meeting. As cited above, this month’s meeting is cancelled. We continue exploring options for when we can get together and are soliciting donations to keep us in a position to support next years’ ball teams, Boys and Girls State, the Oratorical, Scouts, veterans and their families in need, etc. Our only income, so far for this year is the Annual Flag Event. We still plan on holding the September Picnic at Charlie Daniels Park. Our plans for Christmas Dinner continue as I work with the Rutland Place Catering Staff. We have until two weeks prior to make a final decision or look at other options...

For your planning purposes, we must inform you that we have to cancel our post meeting for the 11th of August due to our current concerns about the COVID virus. Your Commander and the Executive Committee have made this decision based on the high number of new cases that continue to occur in our state. Our newsletter will be published soon, with additional details.
Mt. Juliet, Tenn. – The Mt. Juliet Police Department supports and encourages everyone to wear a mask or face covering as COVID-19 cases continue to rise. As an alternative to issuing a citation to those not in compliance with the Wilson County mask mandate, officers will continue to educate and provide masks to community members. The mask mandate order, issued by Wilson County Mayor Hutto, is active at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2020. “I want to see full compliance with Mayor Hutto’s order so we can contain the virus as soon as possible,” stated Police Chief James Hambrick. “From the onset of this pandemic, we have focused on educating our community about the importance of wearing a mask and taking personal safety precautions. We have obtained substantial compliance without charging business owners or community members. This model will continue, and we will issue face masks to those in need rather than issuing a citation.” Details on Wilson County’s Mask Mandate: https://mjpdnews.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Wilson-County-Press-Release-Mask-Mandate-7_17_2020.pdf

There was nothing on the agenda that could not wait until our next August meetings. In order to protect our families and fellow members, we all must listen to our government leaders and keep up with social distancing, wearing of masks while in the public and wash our hands at every available opportunity and use hand sanitizer...
Post 281 Members,
Your July Newsletter will have the details; which will be published soon, but for your advanced planning, you need to know that our July 14th meeting has been canceled due to the increase in COVID 19 cases we are experiencing in central Tennessee.
We know you understand, so be smart, be safe, and protect your loved ones.

Simple donations for Veterans in need, passed along from Department:
My name is Joe Ferguson and Legion Member with the Murfreesboro post, I am a former Active Duty and OIF II Combat US Marine currently residing in the US Department of Veterans Affairs Alvin C. York VAMC (Murfreesboro, TN) - Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTP). If you're not familiar The mission of the Residential Rehabilitation Program (RRTP) is to provide high-quality residential rehabilitation and treatment services for Veterans with multiple medical conditions, mental illness, addiction, or psychosocial deficits.
What some of us have experienced in military service or combat are both physical and mental scars that we have attempted to be self-treated, a reason many of us are here currently. I am very thankful for the opportunity to be in this treatment program for I truly believe it is a lifesaver.
I've worked with Wendell Burnett and Bill Campbell in the past through employment services at the AJC (American Job Center). I'm now in the rehab program and I am actually one of the few here that are financially stable, but several of these Veterans will be homeless once they leave the program. With 10 Veterans currently in-house Groups, classes, one on one therapy and downtime are also part of the treatment.

Members of Post 281, the following is for your information.
FROM CHELSEA HICKS WILSON COUNTY FAIR
Dear Fair Partners,
Due to the ever-evolving situations, the impact on community health and well-being, the traditional Wilson County Fair as we have known it in Lebanon, TN, will not take place in 2020. If conditions improve, we will consider other options for a 2020 event. The safety of the Wilson County Fair’s volunteers, participants, visitors, and community is the highest priority in producing the annual fair. After seeking guidance from the State of Tennessee, the CDC, and other organizations and taking direction from the Tennessee Pledge created as part of Tennessee’s Economic Recovery Group, it became clear that not having the traditional Wilson County Fair was the responsible decision.
