SUMMARY:Patriot Day
DESCRIPTION:Patriot Day is a United States national observance that honors the memory of those who were killed in the September 11 attacks. It was first observed in 2002\, after the proclamation by President George W. Bush. \nOn September 11\, 2001 al-Qaeda launched a series of coordinated terrorist attacks upon the United States\, killing almost 3\,000 people. In the immediate aftermath of the tragic events\, President proclaimed September 14\, 2001 as a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for the Victims of the Terrorist Attacks on September 11\, 2001. A year later\, September 11 was made a national day of mourning referred to as Patriot Day.\nThis observance has been proclaimed annually since 2002. \nIn 2009\, President Barack Obama rededicated it as Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance. It is not a public holiday therefore government offices\, educational institutions and businesses do not close on this day. On Patriot Day\, the national flag is flown at half-mast on all United States government buildings and establishments. Individuals are also encouraged to display flags on their homes. \nA moment of silence is traditionally observed at 8:46 AM. Many organizations and establishments hold memorial ceremonies to honor the victims of 9/11.

SUMMARY:Flag Day
DESCRIPTION:https://www.loc.gov/item/today-in-history/june-14 \nSince 1916\, when President Woodrow Wilson issued a presidential proclamation establishing a national Flag Day on June 14\, Americans have commemorated the adoption of the Stars and Stripes in many ways–displaying the flag in the front of their homes\, parades\, and other patriotic observances. Prior to 1916\, many localities and a few states had been celebrating the day for years. Congressional legislation designating that date as the national Flag Day was signed into law by President Harry Truman in 1949; the legislation also called upon the president to issue a flag day proclamation every year.

SUMMARY:Run For The Wall
DESCRIPTION:2024 Run for the Wall – Tennessee Route – Lebanon \nThe Run For The Wall Mid Way Route will pass through Nashville on Tuesday\, May 21\, stopping in Lebanon (Pete’s Truck Stop) for refueling around 3:20 p.m. and departing after 45 minutes enroute to Cookeville. \nYou can review the schedule and support the riders from I-40 over passes. \nLet’s have a big turn out at Pete’s on Sunday May 21st at 3:20 pm for the rider’s refueling. Bring your flags and come out to meet some of the riders.\nLebanon Fire Department will have a ladder truck with American Flag \nThis year for the first time we will have the riders being escorted by Davidson County Sheriff motor patrolman ( Thanks Shawn )\nEvery May\, for more than a decade\, an ever-increasing number of motorcyclists have made the “Run for the Wall\,” a cross-country journey from Southern California to the “Wall\,” the Vietnam war memorial in Washington\, D.C. While the journey’s avowed purpose is political — to increase public awareness about those who remain either prisoners of war or missing in action in Southeast Asia — it also serves as a healing pilgrimage for its participants and as a “welcome-home” ritual many veterans feel they never received.
