First of all\, we had to schedule the pickup earlier than usual this year\, so it is imperative that you get your order in quickly. The pickup date is Saturday\, March 29\, 2025. We are now taking orders thru March 19\, 2025 with payment due by March 22\, 2025. Please\, no exceptions. \nSecondly\, we had to increase our cost this year to $30.00 per tree. However\, the good news is if you pay by credit card or venmo\, you will not be charged a fee. Of course\, checks are also acceptable. \nThird\, the only refunds we will be issuing this year will be for trees ordered and paid for but not available from our supplier. We ask that you make sure when the trees are loaded into your vehicle that the count is correct. Our helpers will make every effort to load the correct number\, but it is also your responsibility to verify the count. You will not be issued a refund if you get home and find your order was short. \nAll of that being said\, we look forward to supplying you with some great shrubs and trees again this year and hope that you will once again support our Auxiliary fundraiser. As in the past\, some of the funds will be used to send local 11th grade girls to Tennessee Volunteer Girls State (an Auxiliary program designed to empower young women to become great leaders and responsible citizens and to learn about our government and how laws are enacted). The observance is a time when families and friends gather and give thanks for many reasons\, each often as different as each person who gathers around the table.  \nIn 1621\, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast that many acknowledge today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. For more than two centuries\, days of thanksgiving were celebrated by individual colonies and states. However\, it wasn’t until 1863\, amid the Civil War\, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November. \nHow to Observe Thanksgiving\nIn many American households\, the Thanksgiving celebration has lost much of its original religious significance; instead\, it now centers on cooking and sharing a bountiful meal with family and friends. The pilgrims may not have even served turkey that fateful day in 1621. Today\, however\, the bird is so ubiquitous\, it has become synonymous with the holiday. In fact\, nearly 90 percent of Americans eat the bird—whether roasted\, baked or deep-fried—on Thanksgiving\, according to the National Turkey Federation. Other traditional foods include stuffing\, mashed potatoes\, cranberry sauce\, and pumpkin pie. Another common Thanksgiving tradition is volunteering to ensure everyone has a meal on the big day. DESCRIPTION:Significance of Columbus Day 2024\nColumbus Day 2024 is an annual federal American holiday that occurs on the second Monday in October each year. Columbus Day 2024 is a day that commemorates the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the Americas and his discovery of America on October 12\, 1492. \nHistory of Columbus Day\nPeople\, throughout the world\, have celebrated Columbus’s voyage since the colonial period. Historically\, the Italian-born explorer set sail in August\, 1492. He intended to chart a western sea route to China\, India and the renowned gold and Spice Islands of Asia; instead\, he landed in the Bahamas\, becoming the first European to explore the Americas since the Vikings set up colonies in Greenland and Newfoundland during the 10th century. Columbus Day became an official state holiday in Colorado in 1906\, and later became a federal holiday in the United States by proclamation of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1937. \nThe date on which Columbus arrived in the Americas is also celebrated as the Day of the Race (Día de la Raza) in Latin America and some Latino communities in the United States. Columbus Day 2024 celebrations are known to be controversial because the settlement of Europeans in the Americas led to the deaths of a very large proportion of the Native American people. \nIt has been argued that this was a direct result of Columbus’ actions. It is clear that the arrival of the European settlers led to the demise of a large proportion of the history and culture of the indigenous peoples of the Americas. It has also been argued that Columbus should not be honoured for discovering North America\, as he only went as far as some islands in the Caribbean and never got as far as mainland America. \nTraditions of Columbus Day\nTraditionally\, celebrations of Columbus Day 2024 include lessons about Christopher Columbus and his voyage at schools. Throughout the United States\, Columbus Day 2024 has evolved into a celebration of Italian-American heritage. Communities host parades and street fairs with colourful costumes\, music and Italian food. In many cities and towns that honour indigenous peoples on this holiday hold activities such as traditional dance and lessons about Native American culture.
