Passing of our beloved Max Anderson

 

 

It is with great regret that we share the sad news of the recent passing of our beloved WWII veteran and member of our post, Max Anderson. Max was 102 years old. Final arrangements for his service have not been made, but know we will share it with the post when the details are completed. Pictured above is Max and his wife of 77 years, Flossie, from their marriage in 1944.

Fellow Legionnaires, family, and friends We sincerely hope that this newsletter finds you and your families all doing well and most of you will have received your COVID-19 Vaccination or at least have it scheduled. We sent numerous emails and posted information on our website providing information on where and when you may get the vaccinations. This includes both local medical facilities and the VA TVHS campuses in Murfreesboro and Nashville.

We continue with our Post’s “Buddy Check” of all our members. This program ensures all members are doing well and are not in need of our assistance. I will be convening a Phone Call Team to assist me in this effort. This may include members who currently cannot leave their residences. The checks are required to be done twice a year. So, expect phone calls, emails and letters asking to see how you are doing and requesting that you re-validate your contact information. You will need your membership number and may revalidate your address, phone and email information and renew at https://www.legion.org/membership

Good morning members, update on Covid 19 vaccine 

Tennessee Valley Healthcare System is hosting walk-in vaccine clinics Tuesday, March 23 through Friday, March 26 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Nashville and Murfreesboro campuses.

Enrolled Veterans of all ages are welcome to attend.

If Veterans have a vaccine appointment, please tell them to keep it. They’ll be seen at their slotted time. Enrolled Veterans who are unable to attend can request an appointment by signing up at VA’s Keep Me Informed tool. They will receive a confirmation email once registered. If they do not, please try again by selecting “continue without signing in.”

TVHS expands COVID-19 vaccines to enrolled Veterans of all ages

TVHS expands COVID-19 vaccines to enrolled Veterans of all ages

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Valley Healthcare System is offering COVID-19 vaccines to enrolled Veterans of all ages starting Friday, March 12.

To request a vaccine appointment, enrolled Veterans should use VA’s “Keep Me Informed” tool or contact their health care provider. TVHS Veterans can also attend the walk-in vaccine clinic Saturday, March 13 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Nashville and Murfreesboro campuses.

TVHS has administered more than 27,000 doses using Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines. For more information on TVHS vaccine updates and walk-in clinics, visit www.tennesseevalley.va.gov/services/covid-19-vaccines.asp.

Veterans who wish to enroll in VA health care can call 1-800-228-4973 and press 4 or visit www.tennesseevalley.va.gov/patients/eligibility.asp.

TVHS is an integrated tertiary health care system comprised of two hospitals, the Alvin C. York Campus in Murfreesboro and the Nashville Campus, as well as more than a dozen community-based outpatient clinics located in Tennessee and Kentucky. American Legion Auxiliary Annual Tree Sale, All trees $18.00

It’s once again that time of the year when we think about Spring planting, and what better to plant than beautiful trees and shrubs. The American Legion Auxiliary in Mt. Juliet is having our annual tree sale for the 11th year and orders are now being taken.

Pickup of orders is scheduled for Saturday, April 10, beginning at 8:30 a.m. until Noon, 1st Baptist Church, 735 N. Mt. Juliet Rd., Mt. Juliet, TN 37122.

As you know, Governor Lee published Executive Order 73 limiting gatherings thru 27 February and has basically shut us down except via Conference Calls online. Our new home, The Mt. Juliet Senior Center remains closed until further notice.

On 2 February 2021, your Executive Committee held a Free Conference Call Meeting. We discussed holding a meeting 9 March at the Senior Center or at a Charlie Daniels Park pavilion. Are you a retiree who will lose Tricare Select coverage Jan. 1? Here’s what to do.

Are you a retiree who will lose Tricare Select coverage Jan. 1? Here’s what to do.

More than 850,000 retirees and their family members who were enrolled in Tricare Select must now pay enrollment fees.  Are you a military retiree who will lose Tricare Select coverage? You may not realize it yet — and you should take action to reinstate your coverage.

In 2021, for the first time, more than 850,000 retirees and family members enrolled in Tricare Select, must pay enrollment fees in order to continue their coverage. If you haven’t responded to the Defense Department’s clarion call to contact your Tricare regional contractor to set up a payment process, you lost coverage as of Jan. 1, and you’ll soon find your health care claims are denied.

But all is not lost. Defense officials have taken some steps to mitigate the impact on those who don’t set up their payments, said Mark Ellis, chief of policy and programs for the Tricare Health Plan.

These are so-called “Group A” retirees and their dependents — working-age retirees under age 65 who entered the military before Jan. 1, 2018, their family members and survivors. Previously, these beneficiaries didn’t have to pay enrollment fees for Tricare Select, but a 2017 law required the Defense Department to start charging these enrollment fees by Jan. 1, 2021. This doesn’t affect Tricare for Life.

The new fees are $12.50 per month or $150 a year for an individual; and $25 a month, or $300 a year, for family coverage. These retirees/beneficiaries were urged to set up a payment process by the end of 2020 through their regional Tricare contractor, using allotment, recurring credit card or debit card transactions, or electronic funds transfer.

Tricare officials have extended the grace period for people to reinstate their Tricare Select coverage, from 90 days to 180 days, Ellis said. That means those who are terminated can pay their missed monthly premiums, and the coverage will be retroactive. Tricare will then pay the claims that were denied back to Jan. 1 because of the coverage termination.

Tricare officials have also directed the Tricare regional contractors to make at least three phone calls to households whose coverage was terminated because they didn’t set up their payments. They’ll call the home phone, cell phone, work phone, speaking to an adult in the household, letting them know their coverage has been terminated and what they can do to reinstate the coverage, Ellis said.
