The American Legion Department of TN’s JROTC Cadet of the Year Award Nominations Due

The American Legion Departments (state) to establish Outstanding JROTC Cadet of the Year
programs. This is in addition to the current American Legion Awards program where each JROTC unit can
recommend cadets for General Military Excellence and Scholastic Excellence Awards. The criteria for award
of both the General Military Excellence and Scholastic Excellence awards can be found in Army Regulation (AR)
145-2 dated 24 February 2000, paragraph 8-12. The recommendation for the Military Excellence and
Scholastic Excellence awards should come from the Senior Instructor of the respective JROTC unit. A local
American Legion Post purchases the two medals and certificates. The American Legion, Department of
Tennessee recommends that each American Legion Post adopt a local JROTC program. In turn, the JROTC
Senior Instructor notifies The American Legion Posts of the individuals recommended to receive the General
Military and Scholastic Excellence Awards. Since the ROTC Medals and Certificates have to be ordered from
Indianapolis, it is recommended the request allow at least six weeks lead-time.
