The United States Navy’s 249th birthday will be on October 13, 2024. The Continental Congress established the Navy on October 13, 1775, with the intention of using a small fleet of privateers to attack British commerce and weaken British naval power. In 1972, Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt officially recognized October 13 as the Navy’s birthday.
