Former Commanders
Stephen DeBord 2010, Our co-founding commander
Pat Unger –
– Co-founding member and commander, 2010 – xxxx. About 15 years ago (2010), myself and a young Marine Corps veteran teamed up and decided to start an American Legion Post in Mt. Juliet. There had never been a military service organization in Mt. Juliet. I joined the Legion back in the 80’s when still on Active Duty but the Post was in Brentwood. I also went to the Post in Lebanon and Nashville. But, I always wanted a Legion Post in Mt. Juliet, so Steve DeBord and I started Post 281. Soon after we started, Steve moved out of state and I became the Post Commander. I had my goals. I wanted a Sons of The American Legion Squadron, a Legion Boys Baseball team, a ladies Auxiliary and our own Honor Guard.
Within a short time, Post 281 had all of those. I thought about getting a Legion Riders Chapter and as luck would have it, the Legion Riders from Post 88 in Donelson approached me and wanted to transfer to Post 281 – so we had it all!
