Tyler Cates Post 281 update for 24 September 2020

American Legion Tyler Cates Post 281 Officers and members will hold a community outreach session at the Lowes in Mount Juliet on Saturday, 26 September 8 am to 3 pm.  We will be recruiting for new members and seeking donations from the community to help with our projects to help veterans, youth and seniors.

We will be joined by the Post 281 Auxiliary. They will be selling commemorative monument bricks to honor veterans.  These bricks will become part of a Military Wall of Honor to be located at Robinson Park 1246-1280 N. Mount Juliet Road.

We need members to assist with this effort. We will be following the CDC Guidelines and those of our state and local governments for the COVID-19 pandemic.

We will have a regular post meeting on 13 October from 6-8pm at the Senior Activity Center 2034 N. Mount Juliet Road

Recent Information received from the Veterans Administration’s Tennessee Valley Health Care System

Are you getting your flu shot from a community care provider?

If you are getting a flu shot from a community care provider, please print or present the “Provider & Veteran Flu Shot handout” listed on our website below.  This handout ensures the community care provider bills the VA and not you!

Post Picnic, Saturday, Sept. 12th, @ 11:00 am, Charlie Daniels Park

I have received inquiries from some of you conveying that you are itching to get out of the house and go to a Post 281 Meeting.  As a reminder, our meeting place has moved to the Mount Juliet Senior Activity Center on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.  Read on Please!!!!!

Our Executive Committee and I had a rough discussion about having a meeting.

Due to Governor Lee’s edict to extend COVID-19 protections and Safety, I have canceled our 8 Sept meeting at the Senior Center.

HOWEVER, to get us out into the clean air, we are still going to have our annual picnic at Charlie Daniels Park Pavilion 2, Saturday 12 Sept 11-3 pm

We will be wearing masks, when not sitting down to eat.

Plastic Gloves will be provided for handling your food while wearing your mask.

Some may throw some horseshoes again…… come find out!!!!  We’ll have a few pickers and some grinners, and if you have a favorite Karaoke song to sing, be prepared to sing.

Please respond by confirming that you, your wife (and others) will be attending.

We need a rough order of magnitude, headcount, to use in purchasing the food for preparation.

Also, we are meeting at Mount Juliet Lowes on Saturday 26 September 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Please check out our Post website.https://www.mtjulietalpost281.com/

Holler, if you need us.  615-443-4138 and leave a message.

We are taking the phone off the hook due to the number of bogus calls.

So leave a message and I WILL call you back.

Hope to see you at the picnic and at lowes too.

Respectfully and Semper Fidelis,

Max Wix

FROM THE COMMANDER:

Fellow Legionnaires,

Greetings and hope this finds you and your families continuing to be healthy and doing well in the midst of the current COVID-19 Pandemic. The numbers in Tennessee keep creeping higher and it is a scary time and we all must take appropriate precautions. Therefore I have consulted with the Executive Committee on 4 August. I asked and it was unanimously agreed upon to cancel our 11 August meeting. There remains nothing urgent on the agenda that could not wait until our September meeting.

Your Executive Committee met on 4 July, via a Zoom internet conference and revised an agenda for our next regularly scheduled meeting. As cited above, this month’s meeting is cancelled. We continue exploring options for when we can get together and are soliciting donations to keep us in a position to support next years’ ball teams, Boys and Girls State, the Oratorical, Scouts, veterans and their families in need, etc. Our only income, so far for this year is the Annual Flag Event. We still plan on holding the September Picnic at Charlie Daniels Park. Our plans for Christmas Dinner continue as I work with the Rutland Place Catering Staff. We have until two weeks prior to make a final decision or look at other options…

Mask or Face Covering as COVID-19 Cases Continues rising

Mt. Juliet Police Support Wearing a Mask or Face Covering as COVID-19 Cases Continue to rise, Officers Will Continue to Educate & Provide Masks to the Community

Mt. Juliet, Tenn. – The Mt. Juliet Police Department supports and encourages everyone to wear a mask or face covering as COVID-19 cases continue to rise. As an alternative to issuing a citation to those not in compliance with the Wilson County mask mandate, officers will continue to educate and provide masks to community members. The mask mandate order, issued by Wilson County Mayor Hutto, is active at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2020. “I want to see full compliance with Mayor Hutto’s order so we can contain the virus as soon as possible,” stated Police Chief James Hambrick. “From the onset of this pandemic, we have focused on educating our community about the importance of wearing a mask and taking personal safety precautions. We have obtained substantial compliance without charging business owners or community members. This model will continue, and we will issue face masks to those in need rather than issuing a citation.” Details on Wilson County’s Mask Mandate: https://www.mtjulietalpost281.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Wilson-County-Press-Release-Mask-Mandate-7_17_2020.pdf
