Join us this Saturday the 11^th at noon, as we gather with our families and friends to commemorate the significance of this particular day in our country’s history, while celebrating the common bond that we Veterans and Legionnaires share in our service to making this nation so great.  

Burgers, Hot Dogs, Bar-B-Que and the supplementary “fixins” supplied by the post.  Bring your favorite side dish to share with 6 to 8 others along with lawn chairs. 

Pavilion 2, Charlie Daniels Park, Mt. Juliet, starting at noon.   Entertainment provided by recording artist Forest Brandon (and a new post member too) ,  games, karaoke, and perfect weather to enjoy. 

Bring your family and your veteran friends and their families too.   

We are family!  Come and be a part of us as we continue to serve our military brethren and sisters, our great community and country. 

Samuel B. Langham Jr.

SEPTEMBER 30, 1923 – AUGUST 20, 2021

Samuel B. Langham, Jr., age 97, departed this life on August 20, 2021. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee on September 30, 1923 to the late Sam B. Langham Sr. and Louise Sims Langham. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Martha Harris Langham. He was a member of Saturn Drive Baptist Church for over 60 Years. Sam was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 25 years in the Donelson and Nashville areas. Sam was also a member of the American Legion Post 281 in Mount Juliet.

Sam is survived by his daughters, Laura Harris Langham, of Overland Park, Kansas and Lesia (Preston) Goddard of Mount Juliet, Tennessee;

A Gathering of family and friends will be held from four until seven in the evening on Monday, August 23, 2021 and again on Tuesday, August 24, from ten o’clock until eleven o’clock in the morning. at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 in Dignity Hall of Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home where the service will be streamed live @ Woodlawn-Roesch,with Interment to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Sam’s honor to the Nashville Rescue Mission, Shiner’s Children Hospital and the Nashville Humane Society.

Fellow 281 Members,

A quick reminder of our up coming meeting, tomorrow night (10th of August) at the Mt. Juliet Senior Activity Center, starting at 6:00 pm.   Yes, pizza and soft drinks will be available and the meeting starts after everyone has had a chance to enjoy some food and fellowship.  

We have a lot to cover:   

1. Celebrate the achievement of our Honor Guard’s 400th funeral honors or veterans support service.   

2.  Students from MJHS will share their experiences with attending Boys State last May.                     ( Learning how our democracy works at county, state, and the U.S.legislative, judicial and executive levels.)   

3.  Anthony (Tony) Stevens, Assistant Chief, Volunteer Services, from the VA in Murfreesboro, will discuss their support services for Veterans. 

4.  The 281 Auxiliary President, Gwinne Queener,  will discuss the plans for a Veterans Memorial Walk that is projected to be constructed in Robinson Park this Fall, and how our post can support this community effort.   

5.  Plus updates on our Post’s Reverse Raffle, our Post Picnic on 11 September,  and planning efforts for Halloween in the Park in October.

Mt. Juliet American Legion Post #281 invites you to participate in our 2021 Reverse Raffle. 

The Raffle is being held on Friday, September 17, 2021 at the Hermitage Golf Course at 3939 Old Hickory Blvd, Old Hickory, TN, starting at 6:00pm with a buffet meal.  Funds raised during the raffle will help our post meeting our goal of giving back to the community of Mt. Juliet.  

The drawing for the winning ticket of $10,000 dollars will start at 7:00 pm and continue until there is one winner remaining.  Tickets are $100 each, with only 300 tickets are being sold.  Your odds of winning the Grand Prize are less than 300 to 1.
